Smithsonian reviews by customers
fine magazine catering to numerous groups of people everywhere Smithsonian magazine comes out monthly and it sure is a fine magazine! This magazine is designed for people who are interested in both history and mostly scientific events and studies going on in the present. The quality of the paper is quite good; the artwork is excellent; and the binding is very well manufactured to last a long while.
Expect to see interesting articles; for example you may read in a recent issue about a "look back in time" at the year 1908. This article tells so much about the culture, events and innovations that were considered cutting edge technology back in 1908. The article is replete with interesting photos--yes, real photos, not just renderings! The illustrations are, of course, very handsome and clearly a lot of thought was given to designing these drawings. Excellent!
Another recent article from the January issue was about David Maisel's artwork. David Maisal is an artist who currently works to create fantastic paintings and more. There are even up close shots of his work; and this impresses me greatly. There was also an article about a woman studying the behavior of monkeys; this more scientific article is sure to please quite a few readers out there!
In addition, look for smaller, one page articles entitled "This Month In History" and "What's Up;" "What's Up" gives us news about recent and current displays of artwork at various locations.
The magazine has ads directed at wealthier people or people who enjoy a vacation that's off "the beaten path." You may see a full page ad for a small cruise ship line that offers cruises down the coast of South Carolina, Georgia and the northern most tip of Florida where the cruise also ends. There are ads for Bose electronics equipment, too.
Overall, Smithsonian magazine is excellent; I highly recommend it.
Wide Range of Excellent Writing Each issue of Smithsonian contains at least one article that is more than worth the subscription price. The range of subject matter pretty much guarantees you will find something of interest if you enjoy history, culture or museums (I love the Smithsonian, I just wish I was able to visit it more. But you do not have to have gone to it to enjoy this.)
A Great Value A wide range of topics presented in understandable format without talking down to a general audience. I'm not fond of many of the items about "art," but enjoy almost all the other topics consistently.
